My '47 Cadillac 60-S has no defroster fan when lever is activated. I found a single black wire, with a male, round terminal just hanging loose under the dash.  It comes from the defroster motor and travels along the fire wall and just hangs there, un-connected. I can not for the life of me figure out where this wire is supposed to be plugged in. I think it is the source of my problem, but not sure yet. If anybody can help me with this.. It sure would be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance...Mike Mentzer

Thanks Jack...that's exactly what I needed. I found that the previous owner changed the end of the wire to the defroster from a female spade connector to a round male, butt connector. This really confused me until I looked closer at the rheostat switch( one with the resistor). The spade terminal where this wire belongs was crushed...when I straightened it...of course it snapped off...but I was able to solder it back in place. I changed the male butt connector back to a female spade connector...and now I have the fan speeds working on the defroster. Thank you Jack...your drawings have been a great help to me in the last couple of days trying to get these problems fixed. I have a long way to go to get this baby back to areally nice condition, but I'm on my way...Thanks again for taking the time to help...Mike Mentzer
