This came from my rear brake assembly, but I didn't note where it went.... Help

KD, that is a keeper that surrounds the two bottom bolts for the backing plate to the axle.same as on my 53. Dave

I was looking on the inside of the brake drum insteed of the outside of the backing plate.

The answer above is correct...It covers the drain hole in the bottom of the backing plate....It is not the end of time if it is not there.  The opening in the plate goes towards the bottom
