Hi.  I am looking at buying a 1960 Cadillac, and it has a rear defogger option.  There is a chrome lever on the lower left side of the dash board that reads "Rear Defogger" Hi - Lo ; there are two little blowers on the rear parcel area.  Was this actually an option for 1960 or some after market thing?  Any information would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Mike

My 1961 Cadillac Data Book lists, under the "Optional Equipment" tab the following paragraph, "NEW REAR WINDOW DE-FOGGERS (Dealer installed only)  Rear window de-foggers without outlets at each side of the rear compartment package shelf are available at extra cost for all 1961 and previous Cadillac models excepting convertible and Fleetwood Seventy-Five body styles.  Knob below ignition switch on undersite of instrument panel is turned right for high fan speed; left for low speed; centered for OFF position."  I think this means that 1961 was the first year that this option became available but that it could be installed by dealers in prior year models too: but maybe Im wrong.  Oh, the little drawing shows, on the package tray, two little circles (vents, I guess) about 25percent in from each side of the body and very close to the rear window as well as a bigger circle (a bigger vent?) just in from the driver side approximately between the back of the seat and the rear window.  Good luck with the purchase!

Hi Brent.  Thanks for the information.  I believe, from what you have described and from the pictures I have received and talking from the owner, that this 1960 had the defogger installed by the dealership.  I was just concerned, having not seen the car in person, that it was some home made contraption.

I've had two 1960's with the rear defogger...  Attached is a picture of the switch.  If I find one of the vents in the rear window, I'll post that as well.

I just sent 7 pics of my rear defrost setup to your email. Check and see if they got through.
