Hello,

I went to ALL auto literature vendors at Hershey except the Orange field and found some no-shows but not this book. It is specific to Cadillac and not the one-size fits all GM one which has an orange or blue cover. I have seen '38 '39 and '40 manuals at Dan Kirchner;s a couple of years ago. He says the '38 one exists but can't help now. Please help as I am getting close to taking the body off the frame of my 38 60s.

Thanks, Chris Bryant #19358

Hi Jeff and Bob,

Jeff, thanks very much for your sophisticated search for the manual. I am retired from IT myself and noted your search terms. Sadly, I have the books the search displayed.

Bob thanks for your offer of help. I'll take you up on it. I know the book exists as I described it. Dan doesn't have the 39 one anymore and the AACA library had a 1939 shop manual which provided a little help. Somewhere in the forum I saw a note about removing the rear seat and I'll go for that. I would really like to get the whole book though.

Thanks again Jeff and Bob! I'll keep my fingers crossed that you might have a lead, Bob.

Cheers,

Chris Bryant

Chris,
Sorry, but I don't have a lead. I've been in the hobby for many years. I have NEVER seen or even heard of a Body Manual for anything but the Fisher Body cars. Who is Kirchner? A literature guy? Maybe he's seen or had them.
What say others?  Do they exist?

As all the fisher bodies are basically the same whats wrong with using the Fisher body manual??  Iv removed probably a dozen bodies in my time and always managed with the Fisher book, to be honest, I would only refer to it occasionally, most of this stuff is common sense.

Hi Bob and Steve,

Yes, Bob, Dan Kirchner is a literature guy and I held a 1939 book in my hand. (shoulda, Coulda, woulda!). Steve, you are correct it is a lot of common sense and I have the book you refer to. The only hangup I know about for sure is getting the rear seat arm rests out. I'm carrying on anyway although it is getting pretty cold to be out working in the barn. I'll at least get the doors off and bring them in to my heated garage attached to the house.

I hope my old Norton Commando sells soon so I can use the bike table and put the money into the Cadillac fund. Also Steve, I'm admirer of your work and have followed your restoration over the past couple of years.

Thanks, guys for your help!

Chris I can assist you a little with the rear arm rests. When your rear seat is removed completely and you have all the door edging and draught excluder off, you will usually find the back and lower levels of material of the arm rest tacked to tacking rails, when released  you have to lift the material itself and strain it up to reveal screws that are holding the wooden parts of the rest to the body, probably well rusted.
