     I am looking for a left exhaust manifold for 1939 Cadillac/LaSalle flathead engine. I think some 1939 cars had the exhaust exiting out the left manifold towards the back instead of the normal exit out the front of the right exhaust manifold. Looking for one in driver car shape. Any help or info would be great. Thanks Bob Stahl......

    Bob;

    I believe if you move a front exiting right to the left side you will have that rear exiting left. Does anyone disagree?

I don’t believe that would work.  The cross over is behind the carb and near the rear of the engine.  If you move the rear exiting manifold to the other side on the engine the cross over port will be in front of the carb.

Only the 75 series cars had the exhaust take-off on the left rear in 39,   the 50 and 60 series exit front right, earlier cars had it exiting from right hand side front AND rear depending on series so Bob needs to be more specific on the series he wants the manifold for.

Hi, Yes the one I am looking for is for the 1939 75 series car left exhaust manifold. I was not sure how many years or what models used that manifold. Thanks Bob Stahl

That may be a tricky one Bob as I think it was only for a year or two and only that series, I personally have never seen one for sale so good luck with it.

     I did forget to mention that the crossover ports in both manifolds must be covered over with a plate and is no longer used. Which may not necessarily be a bad thing as it removes a lot of heat from behind the carburetor.  I have seen right rear exiting exhausts used on the left and of course the crossover was plugged. No mechanical fuel pump is possible in that set up as the pipe goes down through there.

   I saw a set of these manifold about 20 years ago at a local swap meet but they sold before I could get back with the money.  :-) Bob Stahl

Hi, I'd get in my Directory and start calling each and every member who has another car like yours. Pick times when you think the other person might not be eating, sleeping, or working as well. That may be your fastest way of finding someone who has a spare. If there is another year that has the same part, that might give you some more leads as well. Most members are quite receptive to cold calls, and you are sure to make some new friends as well.

One thing, you might give Terry Wenger in St. Louis a call first. He has had a 1939 Series 6167 for years and may have picked up your part along the way, even though it's not the right car. He also has a great network of friends. Best of luck.

Does anyone have the casting number?  I have a few flathead exhaust manifolds, not sure what they fit.
