I am looking for an antenna which mounts under the running boards.  YNZ would produce me one as would B. B  (Member-vendor) but not knowing much about radio quality in LaSalles I would rather try a used one from a salvage car.

I know my 1940 would have a vacuum antenna but my car has twin spot lights which prevent a cowl mounted antenna.

Hey Gary ... If you don't care about authenticity you might try Googleing "Under Running Board Antennas" , and see what comes out of the woodwork ? About 40 years ago a recent retiree from Bell Telephone Co. in the Detroit area was advertising and selling a unit that looked like a miniature loop TV antenna that he sold for less than $100 bucks. It mounted very simply under one running board and as I recall worked pretty well . His company was called something like " Radio & Hubcap World" and his name was "John" something . Either John , or one of his products might still be hanging around in someone's garage ? ( If it's John hanging there he's probably a bit dried out by now as I figure he'd be about 95 .) Good Luck ! bb

Thanks Bruce,

Since the 1940 had cowl mounted vacuum antennas anything less would be non authentic.  I do like the dual spotlights too much to remove them to put in a cowl mounted antenna though.

Hi Gary. I have an original running board antenna that came off my 37, are the the same?  Its very rough so theres no telling if it works. I always kept it in case anyone needed a pattern.

Steve ... I believe GM offered the attached Under Running Board Antenna for various models of Cadillacs and LaSalles in 1936,'37 & '38 and in similar configurations for models of Chevrolets, Pontiacs, Buicks and Oldsmobiles in those same years as well . BB
