A quick filter question

Hi Fellas,

Can I ask you a quick one?  I put a fuel filter in my 1957 Sedan Deville with a 365-inch mill and mechanical pump.  Question: should it go between the tank and the pump, or the pump and the carb?  Does it make a difference?

GM placed them between the pump and the carb and also had a "sock" filter in the tank.  I would continue with the placement between the mechanical pump and the carb.  If your tank has rust a second filter between the tank and pump to protect the pump.  If tank is rusty, have it fixed.

I agree with Jon S.   If you put one between the tank and pump I would get a clear one so you can see if you are getting junk in it. 

When ever I buy anything that is not fuel injected I always put a clear filter somewhere so I can see if there is crap in the tank.  If I run for a while and it stays fairly clean I remove it and just run the stock filter.
