Want to check the Transmission fluid in my car...just found the round plate under the carpet. Got it off....now I can't get the dipstick out. What is the trick?

When I get it off is just the dipstick there or can I add fluid there too or is that done somewhere else?

What fluid should I use?

Thanks,
Matt

Small flat blade will work fine and once off, you check the level and add with Dexron.

Make sure you blow any loose particles etc, around the opening.

Jeff, I got the round cover off but the dipstick itself still turns about a quarter turn but won't come off...

Matt:

Since the tube does not have any threads, just pull the dipstick up.

got it...thanks. Man, that was an SOB to pull out. It looks fine. If anything it is over full mark by quite a bit. Not sure if that is good but read in the shop manual you are supposed to do it with the car running and in gear and trust me that isn't happening right now.

It isn't shifting smoothly or it is hunting trying to find 3rd gear. Nothing major but want to have a professional look at it. Anyone in the Mid-Atlantic (hopefully Northern VA area) anyone can recommend?

I love the guys at Classic Car Center but Fredricksburg isn't in my backyard. I have heard good things about the guys in NJ but that is a Winter time haul for me too...

Thanks again guys,
MB

I believe that a correction was made to the shop manual and you check the transmission fluid with the engine running, but in neutral, not drive. It affects the level.

...and for an accurate level, the engine should be running at 375 R.P.M. in Dr.
