When I purchased my 1940 series 50  LaSalle my horn relay wires were cut and the horns were in the trunk.... I suspect that this is the wrong location for the horns!. Does anybody have a picture of them mounted in the proper location to post please?

Getting ready to sort out my electrical oddities and install a new wiring harness from Rhode Island.

There seems to be an odor that I remember from electrical issues so I know I have a Gremlin or two hiding somewhere in my car. The spot light wires have been cut also.  Someone took the easy way out instead of taking time to do it right.

I cant answer for La Salle Gary but my 1040 Cadillac had the horns pointing downwards in front the radiator behind the grill.

I have a 40  5019, the horns are mounted on brackets which mount to cross-member just ahead of hinges rear of hood.  Center of hood out to center of brackets is nine and a half inches. Cant vouch for authenticity on this but it looks stock. C.B.Michno  #28530

C. B Michno,

Thanks, I looked into the dark and behold a bracket with screw holes on each side is residing on the underside of my hood, a perfect match to the holes in the little brackets on the horns. I have not tested the horns yet but they are freshly painted and I suspect someone has worked them over.  They are the short version instead of the long horns on my Cadillac but when I looked them over they appeared different. They have spiraling air chambers of different lengths which I imagine gives them different tones.  I will be interested in hearing them later.

Steve, My 1942 Cadillac has the horns between the radiator and the grille also.

It looks like a short run for a wire from the horn relay to the left hand horn then a wire across to the other one.  Now to  get an installation that does not get damaged by the hood when it is opening and closing.
