Fastening '60 Eldo bead moldlings

This question is a bit obscure and will only make sense if you have removed the long thin bead moldings on the rear quarters of a '60 Eldo.  On my car, these are held on mostly by small bolts, with a few of the "figure eight" wire clips, mostly in the areas where it would be difficult or impossible to get a nut on the end of the bolts (like over the wheel housings).  But now that I am removing these moldings again, I am realizing that the wire clips are much easier to use, but in many places may have been replaced by the bolts over the years, probably due to the original clips rusting/breaking and being very difficult to find.  The shop manual is a little vague, but it sounds like there were only one or two bolts used at the front, with the wire clips used for the remained of each piece.  Does anyone recall how they were attached originally; in other words were the bolt fittings used anywhere other than at the front?
