Any idea how the 57/58 Brougham sun visors were originally made?

I've sent photos of the venetian 57/58 visors to every plastics manufacturer I can find and the general response is "that's neat, we don't know what it is or how it was done".

Do you think there were molds for these visors or were they formed out of flat sheet stock? Any thoughts on who I could have reproduce the material?

Originals are impossible to find and in many cases what you can find has been repaired. Would be great to have a solution for this as I'm sure my car isn't the only one that needs these.

Any thoughts?

Jim,

It would be helpful if you post a picture of one and tells us something about how its assembled. Is the material rigid or flexible, thickness, manner of attachment to the visor arm etc.. Polarized plastic sheet was a relatively available material through the ‘60s. Knowing that so few would be required, I can’t believe GM bean counters allowed engineers money for an elaborate manufacturing process.

Back then they did.  They lost a ton on every Eldo brougham.  As for the visors, my thought is that it was some sort of sandwiched plastic much like tinted glass.

Don't forget that '56 Eldorados have the same material for the sunvisors. I assume it was a material produced by a vendor that GM bought.

When I had my '56 Biarritz some fellow in Grant's Pass Oregon made a close reproduction.  I can't remember his name.  Maybe someone else will.

I know the 54 eldo visors were not layered, but did they have any polarizing effect? Dave
