What's the gauge doing or not doing. ?

The entire cluster would have to be serviced if the digital fuel display is not working.

If you explain what the problem is we may have some suggestions.

If you remove the sender the tank needs to come out.
You can get a new sender and remove the tank and replace the sender and reinstall it.

If the tank is completely full, it will also display --.
It's a quirk that these digital units do.

Starts out at --. then will say "FULL" after a few miles, then 18, and countdown.

Is your tank full?

Brian, yes it is full. It never shows anything except the 2 lines on the bottom. I unplugged the connector by the back bumper and sprayed some dielectric electrical connector cleaner but nothing happened. I don't know if it is the sending unit in the gas tank or the digital display or something else. I keep the car full so I don't run out of gas.thanks for any help jimbo

The shop manual states that if you have "--" all the time then you have a open circuit caused by a bad sender, or sender lead wiring/connectors.

I get the "--" only when I first fill up the tank, I figure there is a dead spot in the sender at the top of its travel.

So is the sender in the gas tank.thanks ,where would I start to look for an open circuit.thanks jimbo

The sender is in the gas tank.

Since you will need to siphon or pump out some fuel to drop the tank, if you know it's full maybe remove some fuel or drive the car to see if it goes down and starts reading properly.
