My 78 sedan Deville still has the original am/fm, 8 track, CB radio. Does the CB part require it's own antenna? It will turn on but does not  pick anything up.

Thanks

Hi Trevor -

Other folks who have one, or are more familiar will chime in, but if I recall, the factory CB radio used a single antenna for both the radio and CB, but it was different from the antenna used on cars with just the AM/FM radio - the antenna for the CB equipped cars (again, if I recall) had a "bulge" or "bulb" about 3/4 of the way up on the mast - this is the RF trap that is required for CB reception.  Start there to make sure you have the correct antenna.

Smarter radio guys here on the forum will be able to give you more accurate info than I can.

That's correct. CB equipped cars used a power antenna that had a coil built into the mast.

I have used a CB "adapter" on a standard mast, which has ports for radio and CB.  However, I
don't remember if the Cad setup will mate to this.  Bruce Roe

I don't know what the Cadillac am/fm/cb set up looks like. But I have a c.b in my Caddy. So maybe this is a stupid question, but is it possible that your squelch is turned all the way up? Just a thought.

Also depends on how far you are from someone broadcasting.
