As said i have the axle out and i am looking around to get the new bearing and lock ring .As soon as i have the parts I will break the lock ring to get it of and remove the bearing .putting the new bearing  on is no problem but the lock ring : Is that pressed upon the axle or heated to expand a little and then mounted on the axle and it locks when it cools down .Who knows ?? thanks if you can help me out

It all depends on the construction of the locking ring.

The ones that need to be pressed on will almost always have a note within, or wrapped around the ring stating that it is not to be heated.

There is usually no note with the bearing and ring. When I let replace the axle bearing from my 56 Cad at the GM school about 30 years ago, the instructor heated the ring on a cooking plate to facilitate its installation. It was however necessary to finish the installation with a press.  As your 1950 bearing is identical, you may do the same...
