Looking to buy...rent...borrow a rear grill ornament placement tool. Anyone out there have one? I 'think' the rear grill ornaments are smaller than the front grill ornaments...do they use the same 'star' pin?

1960 GRILL ORNAMENT CLIP TOOL #J8437: Special reusable tool.Trying to assemble your grill without this special tool is the very definition of the word futile! You should do that only if you want to hear your grill rattling from two blocks away!                          $125

NOTE: To assemble your grill properly you will need new rubber seals for under each bullet. (Part #60ZB12-002 in the Rubber Parts section of our catalog) These new rubber seals are a must have item as they are designed to compress and thus create tension against the steel clips. Again I would only leave these out if I wanted to hear my grill rattling endlessly! (Hey some people might like that!)

Dan:

Is that for the rear grill ornaments, which are smaller I believe.

I'm not sure.  Could give them a call though.

59-in-pieces

Whit,
I thought I posted this for you once before along with a pic of the tool - maybe not.
Here is the rubber Dan is talking about.
It goes horseshoe diagonally over the intersection of the vertical and horizontal egg crate bars - then the bullet up over that and the star clip last.
It is the rubber pushing back against the bullet nose that keeps the bullet from rattling after the star clip is pushed down tight in the 4 slots of the bullet.
Have fun,

Thanks Steve. I still don't know if the rear ornaments are the same size as the front and do they take the same 'star' fixer? Is there a different tool for the rear ornaments if there is a size difference. From an 'eyeball' prospective, the rear ornaments look a bit smaller.

Does the shop manual show the tool/list the number?

Whit,
I can't speak directly to the 1960 - 59 guy - but the 59 rear bullets are shorter than the front ones.
However, the 59's do use the same star clip.
Have fun.

Steve:   There is no FUN in grill ornaments...particularly without a tool.

Whit,
Dan suggested you contact Mastermind.
Saw they had one.
What did they say about 60 vs 59 and front to back sizes.
Bite the "bullet" and buy one - sell it on to others who may need/want it.
Have fun - after the cash,

David:  Thanks, but I have new clips.
