will any one know the correct fan belt number

Cadillacs number was 1418885 but I don't think you will find a cross reference for it. 'Gates' used to supply it but no longer.    There are about 6 different belts listed between 36 and 41 because Cadillac changed the pulley width and also the height of the pulley bracket so you can see how hard it is. The belts being offered by certain venters today is too narrow, They will work sometimes but at best sit too low in the pulley. I changed the pulleys and the brackets on my 37 just to get belts to fit.

If that's for your 49 Art its a completely different animal to the 37/38 belt. They were only used for 2 years, Wider and a different length than later cars.

Yes, one can see how far the belt sits down in the pulley. The 37/387 belts were slightly over 1" wide. All belts since are 7/8"
