I was contacted by three scammers in the past six months when I was looking for a '37 Coupe and I finally called the FBI to make a formal report. If you think about it, there is a way to catch a scammer and that is to promise payment (usually they want it sent to a Wal-Mart). Thus a sting could be set up if you tell the scammer you will transfer the money on X date at X time and an official is waiting for the scammer at the Wal-Mart.
Although it would be time consuming it would be most satisfying to catch one of these characters and with the right PR effort one could gain national publicity over the capture. I'd love to participate if anyone is interested.
I told the last scammer to send me a photo of the title, front and back and he wiggled, saying he would do so only if I sent the money first because he said he had done so previously and someone went to a bank and got a loan on the car.
