I'm trying to put my 1937 LaSalle back to a more original state.
Some previous owner butchered, and I mean butchered a 47 engine into it.
The lower mounting ear on the starter appears to have been chiseled off in order to make it fit.
According to the parts book, 36-38 V8 starters are my options.
I would like a complete rebuild-able one if possible.

Thanks,

Just a word of warning.  If the flywheel is 39 and up the pinion on 38 and back has a different gear pitch (tooth spacing).  Found this out the hard way.  The 38 pinion fits right on a 40 starter (and a 49 OHV also).  It does not make a pretty noise when it starts.

I am quite certain that my flywheel is from 1937. It is a one piece solid unit.

You can't fit a 37 flywheel to the later engines. What you have is just the slightly later solid flywheel.

Hi Steve,
I got to looking, and it unfortunately seems you are right.
Is it just the locating hole size in the center, or are there other differences?
Like offset, thickness, diameter etc?

Offset to the crank is massively different as the cranks are totally different also BILL.
