I need to confirm that the engine in my 1966 Fleetwood Brougham is the correct/original engine.  I always assumed it was with only 50k miles when I bought it and everything else was untouched but now I am not so sure.  I removed the engine for a rebuild and the machine shop says it is a 1967.  I guess they are going by code stamped in block only and their source data could be suspect.  What information would I need to provide to get someone's help on the subject?  VIN and block code?  Any other relevant codes/data?  I'm curious what a good judge would go by when judging the car.

I need to make sure it is the correct engine before I spend the time/money on engine work.

Thanks for any help.

Wednesday 6/27/2018 - I added some photos of the heads and rockers for reference.  They look like the 1966 rockers; not the 1967 rockers (like the 472, etc.) that one of you described but take a look and help me confirm if you would.  I am getting a good picture of the carburetor tomorrow to verify it is indeed a Carter AFB.

It would be easier if you let us all know what number you have stamped on the block...

John,

The chassis VIN is located on the passenger rail just forward and below the alternator. It should read P6XXXXXX.
The engine number is on a flat ground surface at the rear center of the block above the torque converter housing and should be the  same as the chassis rail number. The "P" indicates the car was a Brougham, while the second "6" indicates the year. Bill is correct that '67 uses a different head, but the crankcase / block assembly is the same part number as '66.

The block number will not have the P on it, only the 6xxxxxx

If it was a complete swap you will also have a Quadrajet carb, instead of a Carter AFB or a Rochester 4GC that the car originally came with.
There is a fine line between "Hobby" and "Mental Illness".  Dave Barry.   I walk that line.

Big help guys!  I will update this thread when I get the block code; need to go to the machine shop for that.  My carburetor was a Carter and I'm pretty sure I didn't have the '67 rocker arm but I will post some pictures to be sure.
