I had my 57 transmission rebuilt during the overall restoration but the transmission  has sat for 6-8 years. When we road tested it it was reluctant to up-shift but after driving it some it began to up-shift smoothly. However it does not want to downshift as the car is brought to a stop. Is this  a result of stuck valves that will loosen with driving or ??? Any ideas to give me a starting point for what to investigate would be appreciated. Thanks, James

You most likely hit the nail on the head. If it was fine before you stored it, it should work again. Drop the valve body and clean it out, unless you have a better method for a flush. Hopefully no rubber went bad inside from lack of use. Good Luck!

If it is a stuck valve is it likely the governor valve and is that easy to remove?
