The photo is not acceptable but I think the finished job on my V-8 emblem(s)
will pass muster. They both had severe depressions where someone over-tightened
the studs in the back, the the long V had dents in it. I was able to coax the metal back straight, had them gold plated and learned how to apply paint from master restorer
Karla Maxwell. They did not require baking as I previously thought.
I have painted each 3-4 times to obtain acceptable quality, and I'm still an apprentice. Next up is the winged emblem that goes at the top of the radiator shell, and the ones I have were also severely dented. I have fixed two of them thus far and
will do a third. Painting the wings should be a lot easier than the V-8 emblems.
I should wind up with on extra V-8 and two winged emblems I'll probably sell.

I would be interested to hear what you learned from Karla Maxwell. Just in general terms, did you spray the color? Did you tape off the sections?

Although I surely love to teach and share my experiences I can't answer any tech questions
through my apprenticeship with Karla Maxwell. I had the same questions myself and she was impressed enough with my prior work she agreed to share confidential information she has learned through decades of emblem restoration. I can't share the knowledge. That was the promise.

I just did my ´56 hubcap emblems using 1Shot pinstriping enamel, applied with a syringe and 27G (0.4mm) needle. Check my quick summary at the 1970 hubcap restoration thread that got me inspired to do my ´56. I´ll post pics of the results there. Too bad I didn´t take pics of the restoration process for I feel there is a demand in emblem painting technique. Got the syringe/needle idea from a Porsche emblem painting video on youtube.

Did you use an adhesion promoter to get the paint to stick to the chrome? Would like to see link on methods used. I can tell you that UPOL Grip 4 has been recommended to me for my grill wings and hubcap emblems I'm getting ready to do along with Testor's paint.

Hillbillycat

No, I did use the 1Shot paint directly on the brass emblem.

I don't know about brass but I have been informed by a pro that it is necessary on chrome. Hope it sticks to the brass long term. I am having brass chromed for my hubcap emblems, '37 LaSalle. I am going to do the radiator emblems soon as my hand heals and they are now chrome.
