Mine has developed a crack. Hard to find replacement? Where would I look?

I think I might have a set from a 67 Edorado that I dismantled a while ago. If you are interested I can take a look for them.

Hello Richard,

Where is the crack?  Is it at the mounting flange or along a runner?

The difficulty with buying a used exhaust manifold is that it is difficult to see if there is a crack in the manifold you are about to purchase.  If possible, ask any seller to send you photographs of the sand-blasted or wire-wheeled manifold they propose to sell you. If buying a dirty/rusty manifold, offer $10, or $20 if you can drive to obtain it.

Another option is to find an experienced welder who can weld the cast iron properly.

The crack is around the pipe that comes out from left front cylinder.

I would probably have to let a shop have it installed even if I find a used manifold.

Hey Jeff, sounds fantastic, where are you located?

Hi Richard,
I'm in Vancouver Canada. I would have to look for them if you are interested. I'm not sure if I want to sell them separately. I haven't been trying to sell parts so I don't know what they should be priced at. I'm not sure where Christopher is but it sounds like there must be lots of them around if they are $10 each. I'm not an expert but maybe the earlier 429 manifolds are the same? I buy a lot of parts on line in the US and got to Washington to pick them up to save on shipping and duty. I have also mailed stuff when down there. I think I am going down there next week. If you can't find anything else let me know and I will see if I can help.

Richard,
You have most likely done this but I just looked on line to see if there might be an easier way for you to find what you are looking for. There is a guy on eBay selling 67 exhaust manifolds. I'm mentioning this because I think he states in his ad that they fit everything but the Eldorado. If this is true and your car isn't an Eldorado then I guess I can't help. Lucky this guy doesn't charge for the information I just shared. He wants $499 for 1 manifold.
Cheers
Jeff

I have a Calais. In any case I don’t feel like spending 500 dollars on a new manifold. How much would a shop want to weld it together would one think?

Hello Richard,

I live near Baltimore, MD. The reason I suggested $10 is that if you cannot positively determine (or the seller guarantee) that a 51 year old cast iron exhaust manifold is crack free, then you are buying a pig in a poke.

I haven't seen the $499 manifold on eBay, but imagine buying that for that amount, only to find that it has a crack.  For $499, you can get yours repaired by a competent welder.

Hello Richard,

Prices for welding cast iron parts will vary based on location and the skill of the welder.  Your profile indicates you are in Austin, TX.  Forum and CLC member Greg Surfas lives in the San Antonio, TX area.  He has hot-rodded Cadillacs, so he may know a good welder.  Send him a PM.

Hey Christopher,

Yes you are right, bad to buy a pig in a poke. Driving down to San Antonio to meet up with Greg Surfas is on my bucket list and I'll do it as soon as I can.

Richard,
I bought a couple trim pieces for my 67 DeVille from "borthautoparts.com". Guys name is Mike and he helped me to make sure the quality was what I needed. From what I searched through he has lots of early cadillac parts.
Good luck with your search..
Jim
