I have the usual broken gear shift knob on my Seville. Could any 57 owners please measure the length of the plastic part, length of chrome tip and diameter at end of tip. A friend is going to machine them for me. Tia.

Really disappointed with the Cadillac community I posted on here and 2 facebook pages asking if anybody could give me the dimensions of the shift knob so I could make one. All I got was suggestions where to buy one which was not what I asked. Anyway I decided to make one using the lengths and taper of the indicator stalk. Got piece of brass bar off ebay, had friend machine it and I plated and painted it. Total cost £6.50. or $8.20 US compared to one on Ebay which worked out at $218 including taxes shipped to UK.

People were just trying to help!! They assumed you didn't know about McVeys. If you had mentioned that you knew about them & didn't want to pay the $200, then people would have sent you the dimensions.

I imagine that your response would have been quite different if you had said that you reside in the United Kingdom. Postage, customs, et al can make a great difference in the cost of things. And, most people do not have the machine tools needed to make such a smart looking reproduction.

AND, the mind-set of we colonists seems to be "pay a little more, get it tomorrow." In any case, you did a fine job being "The Little Red Hen." Remember, she did it all herself, and ate the cake herself, too. Good job!

Barry,
My version of that fable is a little different. The animals involved were a fox, a big rat & a chicken hawk. After the hen made the corn bread the animals thought... what goes good with corn bread??? LOL!!!

Hello Chris,
The Plastic part is 1.93 long. The lengh the chrome tip is 1,0 amd the diameter of the chrome tip on the very end is .63 . These dimension are in decimal . Mutliply the decimal to find the milimeter by 25.4 .

1.93  X 25.4 = 49.002  MM

.63 X25.4 = 16   MM

1 x 25.4 = 25.4 MM

  Good Luck ,
      Bill
