I just had to have my Speedometer serviced which involved removing the whole upper dash area essentially. when re installing today I used a small flashlight to shine thru the bulb openings to verify which bulbs go where. All successful , however one mystery. On the base of the speedometer case on the right side the first bulb illuminates the OIL light to the right TRUNK. On the left side inside is GEN , for Generator light. Now the Mystery. To the left of the GEN light square is a Green square with no bulb provided. After I completed my installation I referred to the Shop Manual wiring diagram but no mention of a bulb for that location. So I referred to the Owners Manual thinking that would mention what a green light on the dash would be connected to. Nothing listed. Any one know for 1961 ?

Same empty space on '62 with same green filter. My guess is that some other indicator lamp was considered but never made production.

"Superman" Mikey decided to utilize the lamp cutout for a cruise set light on his '62 CdV which seems a ideal purpose for it.

I used that for an indicator that my brake lights were on.  Confused the heck out of my dad who drove the car a couple of times.
Not really sure why I thought I needed to know when the brake lights were on.

I know GM pickup trucks that I have owned of that era had a green light that illuminated on start up until the engine came up to operating temperature, then it would go out. Maybe as mentioned, this was considered for application to Cadillac.
I still own a '66 half ton Chevy that this feature is still operable.

Same on our 62, I had figured it was for turn indicators that ended up on the top of the front fender

Same with my first car, a 1964 Riviera.  It had a green 'Cold' light, but it was right by the 'Hot' indicator on the instrument panel.

This was the cheaper, or standard dashboard on the trucks,  green indicated that the engine was not at operating  temperature yet, the red light next to it would indicate the engine was running too hot.
If you had a temperature gauge you didn't get the lights.
I know that the 69 Deville I had had a red light in case of overheating,  but I can't recall a green light on it.
Got me wondering if there's one on the 63 I have.
