Anyone know a reasonable source for universal joints for 1937 lasalle series 50.

If you have the universal joint removed from the drive shaft, take the complete cross (all 4 caps and the trunnion) to your local parts store, or better yet, a driveline shop, and they will measure the cap diameters and the end-to-end measurements of the caps on the trunnion, and look it up in their catalog.  Just put two caps on the trunnion opposite of each other then wrap some electrical tape around them to keep them from fall off of the trunnion, then do the same to the other two caps.  Just be sure that none of the needle bearings fall into the bottom of the cap, or it will give a false measurement of the cap-to-cap dimension.

Thank you Daryl and Harvey for the help. I am looking forward to the additional help with the part number Harvey. If we can get the proper ujoints maybe we can get the "Queen" on the road with along standing vibration problem solved. If we are   Successful I will pass along what we learned about vibration problems.

Brady, sorry for the delay in finding the numbers, what i used was called a spicer 5-3000x  joint,it also is a Caterpiller 5d9153  or a GKN HS530 .Google the numbers and it should pop up.I had  a vibration in my own 60 series,i replaced the joints and was no better,it turned out to be the front wheel bearings, replaced them and all was well. let me know if it works,if not i may be able to dig a little deeper for numbers. harveyb

Harvey thanks again, you have been a great help I have located the part at several places and will be ordering one to day. Cost is about 70-80 dollars every where(special order). For future information for everyone the Cat dealer said the part number 5d9153 had been changed to 9 K 1971.
