Hello All,

The speedometer on my 1949 Cadillac convertible suddenly gave out.  The speedometer started making a whining noise and the quickly gave up.  The speedometer cable was replaced, but now the speedometer gauge itself needs repairing, as the needle is now broken off. I prefer to restore the gauge I have vs. try my luck with another one.

Do you have any suggestions on an expert who can restore this type of gauge?

Thank you in advance,
Jeff

A good restoration shop I am familiar with is Instrument Services in Machesney Park, IL

There is a fine line between "Hobby" and "Mental Illness".  Dave Barry.   I walk that line.

To close the loop on this fully, I had my instrument cluster removed, sent it to McVey's to repair/restore, and just had it re-installed.  It looks and works great!  The turnaround time was very fast (less than 1 week in his hands) and the price was reasonable for the careful work needed to fix my speedometer pointer (I understand it's not called a needle).  Case closed!
