There is a pretty nice 63 CDV for sale here.
My question is this:
Why is the engine painted black with only 48.5K miles?
Is this a replacement engine?
Was it painted for corrosion reasons?
To me its a red flag, so I think this might be a high mileage car.
Is that interior cloth correct?

They painted the exhaust chassis black too.
I called the idiot salesman...all he said was this car was a "survivor."

Personally I wouldn't have inquired any further once I saw the rattle can hack job under the hood and the air cleaner snorkel pointing the wrong direction. Undercoating looks like it was blown on yesterday. Upholstery material is wrong.

I'd also want to know what happened to the "deVille" portion of the right rear quarter script. The firewall is body color on early production 1963. I'm sure it too was buzzed over regardless of how it left the factory.

I saw this listing also. At first glance, looks very nice. But how did it look before the shiny paint job. Then I saw the undercarriage and wondered what was hiding under the spray. I looked at a local 1958 sedan a few years ago. Paint was nice and needed some interior work. I opened the hood and the entire engine compartment, I mean everything, plus the undercarriage was sprayed thick with fresh undercoating. I politely closed the hood and told them I had to think about it. Having owned several vintage wooden boats, I have found that unless you know who did the work, if it's too clean, beware.

You know, I love the responses from experienced eyes and bloody knuckles!  You guys have probably saved a lot of wise shoppers from heartbreak.  These cars look so pretty under the lights that we get dazzled.  Thank you for your service.

Yeah, and the sales guy said there was already a deposit, which is a quick sale tactic.
....no thanks

No good asking those questions on this Forum as all any of us could do was simply speculate.

If I was wanting this car, I would be contacting the previous owner and asking him, or her.

Bruce is correct. If you can locate the prior owner(s) talk with them. I met and talked with owners of both of my cars. They were long time CLC members and knew how to take care of their cars, so I was quite comfortable with the purchases.

If the car is being offered by a dealer or consignment outfit which I suspect the case here, good luck getting them to furnish the name of the owner.
