How should the "Valve Cover Air Cleaner Breather" located on the driver's side valve cover connected into the air cleaner filter element be cleaned on a 76 Cadillac Deville?  Should light silicone oil be sprayed into it after a thorough cleaner with thinner, distilled fluid, etc? Factory manual does not address this type of cleaning.  EAM

No.  Just clean it with solvent, let it dry and re-install.  It will quickly get oiled from normal engine vapors.

I just spray it out well with brake cleaner, shake it dry, reinstall.

Doesn't hurt to clean dirty stuff.
No need for silly-cone oil.  Install dry as noted.
