What is the best way to get past ownership history on 1979 Cadillac Fleetwood ?

I have not been able to find ownership information on my cadillacs earlier than 1980 What is the best way to find information

Not possible on any car before the 1981 model year.

It depends on which state you live in, or where it's from. I was able to get info from the Texas DMV back to 1973 on my 1960 car, which had only been in Texas. They had to go through micro phish at my request, but found the owners from that point. Luckily the original paperwork was still with the car, so I had information up to about 1968. There's only a few years I'm not sure about, but clues found in the car point to the granddaughter of the original owner.
