Embarrassing question. Lightbulb rear taillight not making good contact. So trying to get it out to clean the contacts. But can't get the bulb out, afraid to break it when I press to hard. Can anyone tell me if I have to turn it clockwise or counterclockwise. I think the latter, but not sure.

Thanks, Tom Bakkum (TomB)

I would start with a squirt of your favorite lubricant. You will need to push in on the bulb
before turning it counterclockwise. Push in and release a couple times, before pushing as you turn.

Sometimes they get so corroded, you have to break the bulb and grab the base with a needle nose pliers.  The contacts are lead and lugs brass. Water gets in and starts corrosion.  Sometimes the bulb breaks away from the base too and base won't turn out.
If you can't get it lose, you can maybe disconnect the socket from the fixture, some friction push in or twist lock in and have a better chance of applying some force.  Use gloves, a rag or rubber sheet to prevent getting cut.
May have to replace the socket pigtail if it's severely corroded.
