Greetings
I'm a little befuddled now after finally getting back to my steering wheel assembly as the cam spacer will not allow me to get the wheel deep enough onto the shaft to grab a thread. It looksblike the cam spacer might receed down into the column bearing but it is super tight. Spacer doesn't show wear like it ever had been in the inner bearing. I may not have set the shaft on the column correctly but it seems set. Any direction will be greatly appreciated
Cheers

After further investigation I realized I landed the column on the dash with out any pre-load as there is a spring between the shaft and the tubes at the rag joint coupling . A little push on the column after I freed it up from the dash gave me enough length at the head to get to the wheel past the threads . Whew

That "Spacer" is actually the indicator "operator" to cancel out the indicators when completing a turn.

There should be a register on both it, and the under side of the steering wheel to hold in in position so it cannot turn on the column and become out of alignment with the indicator cancelling arms.

It should only go on in one direction, which is shown by the locating slot in the steering wheel.

Thanks Bruce
I understand the turn signal cam trip mechanism and the register  thanks for expanding tho.
Can you tell me if the bottom of the turn signal canceling cam spacer is actually recessed into the bearing?
The is a tang on the bottom of the spacer cam that seems like it should be recessed into the bearing but I don't seem to have the clearance to get it in there. P9sting a shot with the cam recessed up to the canceling knuckles

As I said before, the tang slots into the bottom of the Steering Wheel, so it cannot slip out of alignment.

As far as I know, it should not apply any pressure to the bearing.

Gotcha - I guess i miss spoke not the tang but lip I guess that notches out under the cam knuckles. It has to either sit on bearing or inside that's how it maintains the space ergo spacer otherwise the tang would drop out of the register right? I'll have pull out the column and reaasmble. Somehow i didn't come up with enough shaft to get the threads pushed thru.

You will get there in the end.   The Splines is what holds the Steering Wheel tight to the shaft.   They are tapered, hence the reason for the puller being required to remove the wheel.

The tin piece is a push-on fit to the column, slightly springy to maintain its position, but needs the little lug to keep it there.
