1946-1949 1947 Cadillac Spark Plug Wire Cylinder 7 90 Degree?

Hi All,

I'm getting ready to order a new set of spark plug wires from Brillman, as I've read here in a few places that folks think their wires are quality (please correct me if I'm wrong). In reading the 2nd edition Summer 2021 Authenticity Manual, it says that on the 1947 "the number 7 cylinder wire uses a 90-degree terminal end to clear the windshield washer bottle whether that option was installed or not. All other wires use a straight terminal end."

Might seem silly, but I just wanted to confirm this is everyone's understanding since I've actually not been able to find any photos online showing this, and Brillman sells them as all straight terminals (although they will make #7 a 90-degree if I request it). McVey's wire set has all 90-degree ends in the picture online at least. I haven't seen any for sale online where the picture shows 7 straight terminal wires w/ 1 90-degree.

I bought mine for my 61 from Lectric Limited.  Two have a 90 degree bend and the provided a sheet identifying exactly which length and type went where

Thanks for the info, Carl. So where were your 2 90 degree bends? I would assume the authenticity manual is not wrong, but would be good to know that at least 1 of them was cylinder 7. Was the other the rear cylinder on the passenger side (closest to the firewall)?

I will look tonight when I get home.  But again mind is 1961 so not the same.  I contacted Lectric Limited. They say they build from original prints. 

For my dash harness I asked if they sell a dash harness with electric trunk release.  They said that is not part of the dash harness.  I told them I was holding it in my hand and it was. They said I was wrong.

I was wrong.

The electric trunk release was a separate jumper that attached to the power running to the dash clock.

Thank you for asking this question.  As the author of the Class 12 manual, any such question makes me stop, think, and recheck my facts to be sure I got it right.

The use of one 90 degree and seven straight terminal ends on the spark plug leads is confirmed in the 1942, '46, and '47 Master Chassis Parts Lists - section 7.5558.  The manual does not say which plug the 90 degree end is used on.  Scanning factory photos shows the terminal to be on cylinder 7 - and seeing a 1942 - '47 car with the windshield washer option, it's easy to see why a 90 degree terminal is beneficial to clear the washer jar.

For my 61 the 90 degree boot is on one and two. Makes sense since they are the farthest from distributor this avoid an extra long wire to create curve

Carl - thank you so much for looking. Forgive me, when you said '61' above, I assumed you meant 61 series (as my car is) given this is under the 1940's Cadillac tag . Appreciate the info nonetheless and good to know about Lectric!

Jeff - very much appreciate the confirmation. Agree w/ you that it really is the only place that makes sense for a 90 to go (on #7) given the washer bottle. Would love to see these factory photos you have if possible! I try to do everything to mine as it was from the factory, but it's been really hard to source factory photos (vs drawings w/in my many manuals).
