1961 Drive Shaft carrier bearing

Years ago I purchased a new carrier support that came with a bearing.  Looking at the bearing today there are no identifying markings.  So I assume this bearing is. Chinese knock off. 

I know some people have complained about replacing the bearing and only getting one year out of them. 

I will be hunting down an American or German name brand bearing.

But can anyone talk about your experience with these bearings.

Bonus credit. Can you talk about setting the drive shaft angle. I assume this is most important between trans and bearing support. The other side will flex with suspension. IMG_20230829_180536119.jpg

This will be lenghty! Tools needed: jack, 4 jack stands, and an Inclinometer/angle gauge. Digital is best.

The front and rear u-joints are called cancelling u-joints because they are in phase.

1.  Have a full tank of fuel.
2.  Raise the vehicle and place the jack stands on rear axle tubes in the rear and the frame or suspension in front.
3.  Clean off either the bearing caps if Spicer u-joints or prop shaft at the u-joints.
4.  Either sight down or string line the driveshaft from the trans front u-joint to the rear u-joint at the diff.
    Usually they are in a straight line. If not, the carrier bearing support can usually be shifted slightly to
    align.
5.  Rotate the front yoke until its bearing caps are vertical. Install the Inclinometer and record the reading.
6.  Do not rotate the driveshaft. The bearing caps for the rear u-joint attached to the companion flange should be
    vertical. Install the Inclinometer and take a reading.
7.  Rotate the driveshaft until the bearing caps on the prop shaft are vertical Take a reading and record.
8.  go to the front u-joint and take a reading on the front u-joint. Record.
9.  Rotate the prop shaft until the center u-joint bearing caps are vertical and take a reading on the front prop
    shaft's bearing cap. Rotate and measure the rear prop shaft's bearing cap. If you can't access the center
    u-joint bearing caps, measure the angle of the front and rear driveshafts near the center support.

Now it's time to figure out where we are with the prop shaft working angles.

1.  No angle should be 0°.
2.  The angle between the trans yoke and the diff companion flange (cancelling u-joints) must be less than 4°.
3.  The angle betwee the front and rear prop shafts at the center u-joint should be from 0.10° and 1°.

You have two points for adjustment.  At the rear trans mount and the center support.

1.  Subract the trans yoke angle from the diff companion flange angle (cancelling u-joints).   Spec is 0.025°to
    1.0°. To achieve this angle it will be neccessary to shim the rear trans mount up or down. If you can't get to
    specs, as long as it is >4°, it probably will be OK.
2.  Once step one is completed, recheck the front and rear prop shaft angles at the center u-joint and raise or
    lower the center support by shimming to achieve a working angle of 0.10° to 0.50°.

Unless the prop shaft is out of balance, you should hav no P1 or P2 vibrations.
