Is there a way to remove wiper arms on a '61 coupe without using the special tool?  Saw a couple of youtubes where people leveraged with screwdrivers, but their cars weren't Caddys.  If not, is the tool the same commonly available one seen everywhere?  Thanks.

Should be like any other GM of the era.  Pull out and rotate 180 degrees in the arm.

I used to use a screwdriver to pry the arms off, but then discovered this tool. NAPA, IIRC. Very helpful and no more fear of scratching paint or denting chrome. They act like pliers, except the jaws expand when you squeeze the handles.

I used a dental pick to pull the tab back and lift my arms off.

Jim, is a part/tool number on your tool?

I'm confused about what part he is trying to remove. Is it the entire arm off of the mounting to the transmission at the cowl grating, or the swivel section that holds the blade refill itself?

Yes, took the entire arm off the shaft.  I used a combination of one medium and one large screwdriver and a thick layer tape to protect surfaces. I used the small screwdriver to slide the tab over, then leveraged the large screwdriver against the base with a small piece of wood.  Worked fine, but the right tool would surely be easier (as usual).

When you put them back on the splined transmission end, just dab a little Never-Seize on the splines. Then if you need to remove them again, just lift the arm off the glass, slide the retaining tab out and gently lift them off.

Done it.   I hate it when those eBay links won't simply stay within a reasonable area in a post.
