Folks,

Anyone know of a source, other than Kanter, for a new 1940 LaSalle 5019 steering idler arm? Mine is serviceable but worn, which results in a slight bit of wandering.

Thanks,

The idler arm was sold by Cadillac as two pieces. The bracket that mounts to the frame with the bushing that rotates around it(group 18.1357). And second the arm with a ball stud (group 18.1350).
From a 1952 Parts book both parts fit 1939-1940 LaSalle ,Cadillac 1940-1952 All (a 1960 book lists a different number ,but fits 1946-1960).
The bracket / bushing is what was normally replaced and may still be available at a local parts store. This part fits other GMs as well. Try them ,but ask for a newer Cadillac.
Be sure the ball has not worn oval. This part will be harder to find.It does fit to 1952 or 1960.
On Model a Fords they often repair the balls by welding and filling round. This is not a good fix on a big car.
Just be glad you don't need the pitman arm on the steering gearbox. It only fits 1940 LaSalle series 50,52.They do have a ball end which could be worn and cause your problem.

Thanks Warren,

I ordered one from Cadillac Parts LTD. It comes with the arm and mounting assembled.  Manufactured in the USA!!
All the rest of my steering assembly is in fine shape.

Thanks,

I already received and installed a new one, made in the USA, for half the price listed above. Appreciate your help.
