   So my car is running ok and I went to put my air breather on but the coil was in the way, too high. I couldnt figure out why so I took out the 2 bolts on the plate and remove it . Later I went to put the 2 bolts back on and lost one so I just put the one in. Ill find it later. Started the car and it was running rough, and couldnt figure out why. And your not gonna believre this. I found the other bolt , put it in and the car ran great. Wait, whats going on here. I had 2 extra manifolds. Took a nail and put it in that bolt hole and it went right down into the manifold.. So vacumn leek. Who would have known that. The bolt closest bolt to the carb is an exhaust leek. Did anyone no this?

A bit like a bolt at the back of the AC Compressor on a 472 and 500.   Straight into a Manifold port.

When I started to read your post, I was forward-thinking that you dropped it into the Carby, and that ended up in the intake manifold.   Had that happen with a carburettor screw and the mechanic dropped the washer into the carby when pulling the top off the Rochester 2CG.   The engine was fired up, and the spring washer destroyed itself as it went past the intake valve and into a cylinder.

59s and 60s are extremely simple compared to 58s and earlier...but when things like this happen you wonder wtf.  Buddy with his 59 had a similar story and when he tightened a few accessories she ran great.

Gotta love old cars...

  Heres the bolt. If yours is even a bit loose or missing you have a huge vac leek. Why wood they have done this? And it was just luck that I found the bolt, put it in and car ran great.

How many foot pounds of torque should that bolt be tightened to? I too have been chasing an idle issue for years and this may be the answer.

  I just smeered some gasket glue on the bolt and  tightened it. Should be good but wow found this out by mistake.

Seems like the kind of thing that should have been mentioned in a Serviceman bulletin back in the day. I'm certainly going to check mine and perhaps put some sealant on it. The same issue probably extends to '61-'62 as well.
