Took off the rebuilt carb today and the guy is gonna redo it. Has only 500 miles on it. Im running lean , but something doesnt look right here. Im using 1 single gasket cause that is what was on my last carb, and no prpblems for 6 years.

Now that it some miles on it, have you re-done the compression test?  I think in another posting you mentioned that one of the cylinders was low after the rebuild.  Maybe you have done this already, but just want to cover the bases.

If he knows what is wrong now, why didn't he review his work in the first place?

Hes 80 yrs old. He also told me today when showing him the carb, that there are no step up springs in it, and the fast idle screw on my choke, someone added it.

You can do a compression check without the carb, makes it a bit easier because you don't have to prop things open and have fuel when you don't want it.  Downside is you have to be more careful to make sure you don't suck anything down the hole(s).

I found the problem with engine running rough at a stop while in drive. I cant believe how I did this but here it goes. When I got the engine and was installing it, I went to put on the PS bracket to the head. I knew I shoudnt do this but I did. I mean to remove a head bolt, not good. When I went to take out the head bolt it was very stiff and when it finally came out the thread was stripped. So I had another head bolt , same size ,put it in but when I removed it, it was also stripped. I ended up just sliding a slimmer bolt in just for looks, I didnt think that 1 bolt wood make a difference. Until one day I went to a friends house whos an old school mechanic, eng was running hood up. And he said,,,I hear a rattling, like a loose bolt. He looked around the engine grabbed the bolt and pulled it out, while burning his fingers, and said WTF is this. He grabbed a bolt from his shop put vac guange on , it read 16.  He put the new bolt in torqued it,  and gauge shot up to 20 Problem solved, car is running perfect now, So what can I say shit happens
