So Ive changed my gaskets 3 times and they still leak in the back corner. I think the problem is with the design. When I put a gasket on a spare head, then put the cover on, the lip of the cover is touching the head thus when tightening the cover, it has no place to tighten. I can take pics if you like. So the only way to fix this is a thicker gasket or put 2 gaskets together. I could also shave the valve cover lip. What do you think.

I have used some gaskets that have an iron core to
keep them in place.  I had a 62 where the valve
cover had an outer retainer to keep them in place.
But then gaskets slide INSIDE and leave a gap at the
end.  I bolted some sheet metal retainers to the
inside to keep this from happening.

Years ago I bought some Victor brand valve cover gaskets for my 63. They were thiner than the gasket I was replacing. They didn't seal well on my engine. I bought fel-pro gaskets and they were almost twice as thick as the Victor gasket. So far, the fel-pro gaskets have worked well on my 63. I recently replaced the valve cover gasket on the right head after 60k + miles and many years of service. I'll find out if I fixed the drip after the roads clear and the weather is better.

Ditto on the  Fel Pro gaskets. Worked great on my 1960 390. Inspect the valve cover edge.   You may find it is slightly bent inward enough to cause the improper fit. A minor adjustment with a pliers might solve the problem.

I did this process for an oil pan gasket and ended up it for valve cover gaskets too. Worked great and has lasted several years at this point.

There are two different kinds of Fel-Pro gaskets for this engine. Fel-Pro gasket VS5392 is the thicker gasket. You can get them on Amazon or Rockauto. If you buy from rock auto, you'll find them under 1957 Cadillac. 365 and 390 use the same covers so they'll fit. Also helps to use some sort of sealant on the cork, I opt for Shellac but others might use RTV or similar.

Fel-Pro VS5395 is the thinner gasket so make sure you get the proper part number.
