Rebuilt engine on my 55 a year ago. Great results ! However I have gone through two fuel pumps in the last 400 miles.
Purchased them from O'Riellys no manufacturer name on pumps themselves. They just stopped pumping. So decided to go the electric pump route (edelbrock) and no problem except it's noisy and not crazy about a pump that could keep running after a break in the line or a stuck float. The solution works but it seems unnecessary. Any suggestions?

The concensus is a rebuilt ofiginal pump is better then an aftermarket pump.

I agree with Carl, a rebuilt AC Fuel Pump is the way to go.  Even if you can find a NOS pump, get it rebuilt, and put it in.  The reproduction pumps are junk.  I had one briefly, and it turned into a fountain spraying gasoline all over the engine compartment.  AG Rebuilders in Rutland, MA is the place to go for the rebuild (water pumps too).  For years they were known as Arthur Gould Rebuilders.  I've always had a quick turnaround from them, quality work, and affordable.

I agree with having the an original pump rebuilt. If you send it out for repair mark the cover so you get your original back. I had a problem one time I'm sure I sent one out with the AC stamp on it but got one back that wasn't AC stamped.

I had an Airtex pump on my 54,the valves went hard and didn't work anymore. I've heard that sometimes they're not staked in properly and come loose - this didn't happen to mine.

Get an original AC core rebuilt. I have had Carter and Airtex reproductions. Both crap. AG rebuilders is the place to go.

I've gone through two pumps myself in the last year or so.  The Chinese repro pumps are crap.

Thank all
talked with AG Rebuilders and decided just to go with them. Great customer service. Perhaps a bit pricy at 325 ? but cheap versus break down on road and much cheaper that an engine fire !!!!

Yeah, engine fires are horrible and terrifying!

$325 for the rebuild, or for a pre rebuilt purchase. I know for 61 they charge $140 for rebuild. But they have an already rebuilt one on their ebay page for $300 something.
