I have been contacted by a 97 year old Bob Williams regarding the sale of my 47 convertible.  He asked me for photographs, which I emailed to him.  He then called me back yesterday, and asked me again. I replied that I had already sent them.  He asked me to send them again.  I then had a faint memory that there was conversation on this site of him, or someone like him pretending to sell cars for other people.  When I pressed him if he really was a buyer at 97 years old, he said no, but he had "many friends" who were interested in buying cars.  Have we spoken of him before?

Do a search on this site for "cadillac cream puffs". Three separate threads come up. The most recent is from February 2025.

Bob acts as a broker, buying and selling cars to other buyers.  He helped me sell a car a few months ago.  Nice guy, long time CLC member.  He may be a little forgetful at times (hey, he's 97!!)  but as far as I know, and based upon my own experience, he's an honest guy.

He acts as a "broker" without ever taking physical/legal possession of the vehicles he offers. Nice gig without an ounce of sweat or dime at risk.

I've been dealing with Bob in my search for a Fleetwood.  He has sent me a handful of cars to look at, none of which I've been interested in.  As far as I've been able to tell, he is legit and resourceful (he says he was a Cadillac dealer from 1958 to 1980).  Hats off to him for being able to do this into his late 90s.

That's nice.  I will try to work with him

Bob is violating CLC rules by contacting members asking to broker their cars. The Directory has a clause in it that states, "The use of the directory for solicitation or any commercial and/or political use is prohibited." That's why we have classified ads in The Self-Starter for Cars Wanted and Cars for Sale.

G'day Tony,

Did you have your Convertible advertised for sale in the Self Starter, or this Forum?   Only the CLC International Membership Directory has the rule regards solicitation.   Maybe the Forum should have this as well.   Remember that Members posting messages of Non-members and other adds from other sources ie eBay, Facebook and Bring a Traler is a form of solicitation.

Bob has had his latest advertisements of cars for sale on this Forum removed as he is using the Commercial Site, and at the moment, until he removes all references to his website, his advertisements have been classed as being Commercial.

Until this matter is resolved, he will not be able to post, and therefore should not be contacting Members to act as a Broker.

Am I missing something here? I just looked at the Cars for sale listings and there are a number of comments about cars on eBay, complete with a link to the listing. SAme for "it's not mine, yada, yada. I only want to see the car go to a good home"or How about one that has a youtube video in the message?

Maybe one of those listings helps a member get the year and model of a car he has been looking for.

Is that acceptable?

Eric DeVirgilis CLC# 8621

I'll occasionally post a third party listing when it appears to be something truly exceptional and/or an excellent buy opportunity for the benefit of forum members. In every case, the car in question sold very quickly but I'm not sure anyone here acted upon it.

I did not openly advertise my'47 in this forum, or any other, really.  Maybe I'm dumb, but for good cars that I have had for years, I am kind of fussy where they go.  I have two or three strong leads for when I go North next month, and will probably get it done.  At my age, I need a free garage space home up North, and this is the car I have chosen to delete

Hopefully this will not lead to more restrictions on the forum. Postings are down substantially since the last round. I agree with Tony C and Eric in that the ads that are posted for information purposes can be helpful to members looking for a certain car and also as a means of keeping up with the market. Bryon Moran was a good source of a variety of cars on the market.
Best way to deal with Bob Williams is to allow him to run his ads but in the commercial section at whatever the cost is. I had experience with him when selling my '37 which sold but through a different source. I know of at least half a dozen members that have sold or purchased cars through him. Their only complaint along with mine is he can be "pesky". On the positive side he should be an inspiration to all of us looking forward to a long life in the Cadillac hobby.

I'd be interested in your 47.  What are you asking?

There are three listed on the cars for sale forum. THere are a couple of pictures. $40,000 each or $100K for the package.
