Hi,everyone,
I need some good adwises to find the VIN # on a barnfresh `51caddy fleetwood.
I use to have a `59 Coupe De Ville, and I had the same problem to find the numbers.Eventually, after 5 months ,we found one on the frame,in the engine bay.
Even though , another half year later during the restoration, we found on the frame anotherone ,with the same numbers, right under the trunkfloor.
So,how about the `51 numbers?
Thanks!
Gabe

Gabe,
You can find it in two, and possibly three places. First, on the top frame rail, passenger side. Swing the Generator up out of the way and look stright down on the on the top frame rail. This is a dark area and probably covered with crud. Wipe the area good with a rag or wire brush it. Its there. You say you have a Fleetwood. If you have a 60 Special, the number will start with 5160. If its a limo, it will be 5175. Second, on the right (passenger) cylinder head. This will be just above or very near the water pump attatchment to the head. Again, dark and dirty. Its there. If your car has the original engine, this number will match the frame number exactly. Third, ther MAY be a plastic plate on the front drivers door jamb. I say may because these are often missing. The VIN will be stamped on it. Sometimes this number was struck very weakly (like my 53) and is very hard to read. To make the frame and engine numbers really stand out, clean the numbers up really well. Get some white enamal paint and paint over the numbers. Wait a few minutes and wipe off. the white paint stays on the numbers and can be easily read thereafter. Good Luck!
