Anyone have a copy of the Feb. 2005 Self starter  handy, I need to know what is on the cover. I cant remember if I received it or not. Thanks.

Rob Gerace #16100

It has a picture of a black 1939 Cadillac 7523 Fleetwood 7-Passenger sedan.  It is photographed with a mountain(well, at least by Ohio standards) in the background.  I hope that helps.

It is going to have the date on the spine of the cardboard dust cover.

Cmon, Rob, if you think that Ohios flat where you are, just check out around Toledo and probably 2/3 of the way to your place.Dayton-Cinci are rather hilly. Near Toledo, you can almost see clear to Cleveland.

Now, on the SS. I never received the issue that followed the one with the 39-75. I e-mailed the editor about it, but somehow, Im sure Ill never see it. Not good either, because I have almost every issue from the beginning.

Rob Gerace #16100

Hi Doug,
Youre right, it does get a bit flatter if you go north or west from here.  But, even in Dayton, it is pretty flat, even though the downtown is in a river valley.  I can ride a bicycle all the way up the "hill" into the south suburbs without getting off, if that illustrates the extent of hilliness around here.  However, if you go to Cincinnati or eastern Ohio, then it gets much hillier.  I now live in the suburb of Kettering, named after the inventor of the name of the CLCs magazine.

I was missing the Feb. SS as well but I am assured by the Books that it will arrive with the April issue in the same envelope. Apparently there was a glitch in the mailing house that sends out the magazine whereby the Feb issue for all members outside the US was not mailed. I went down from the Ottawa Ontario area to Utica NY to visit Pat Comesky and he had the Feb issue there as well as his April issue which had arrived that day Tues April 6.

All that to ssay, Ivan that if you are outside the continental USA, you should receive the Feb issue along with your April issue.

Good Luck,

Chris Bryant

Thanks Chris, I am about as far away from the continental U.S.
as you can get (Australia). Ill be looking for it with my April copy!

Hello all,As regards the delivery of the S.S.I have been told by the people concerned that only a handfull of complaints have been received as to this problem,so PLEASE let mike and nancy know if you are having troubles as to lateness or non delivery of your S.S.,BY WHAT EVER MEANS YOU HAVE.Here in australia, we wait from 4 to 6 weeks for our issuses.I am also a member of the motor city region in detroit, their maz arrives in 7 to 10 days,so there must be a problem.last year at the G.N., this situation was discussed by quiet a few members from around the world, with all the same opinion,WHATS HAPPENING WITH OUR S.S., this seems to have  been orccuring for 12 to 18 months. Hoping for a great club with a great publication,to have a even greater postage and distribution system . long time member  peter waite

ALL, it would be funny if it wasnt true.
When I was paying for first class postage, my SS came around mid-month.
Now I switched to second class postage, and I receive the SS around the tenth of the month.
Go figure.
Good Luck, Jim

Maybe the magazine shouled be wrapped in a plastic bag like Playboy does. That way the Post Office employees wont be drooling over the Cadillacs all day and delaying delivery!

peter waite

Reply to Tim,maybe thats the problem, try using paper bags instead of plastic,ANYTHING is worth a try if overseas members receive their S.S.faster than 6 weeks, even worse NO S.S. at all.Well put it this way, we have had a suggestion,of starting a swapping pool where you can swap a month that you did receive with a member who has a month you did not receive, hows that sound, feasible or what.     peter waite.

Thanks, Tim. I already sent an e-mail to the address for this problem (The editor, I believe). There was never even an acknowledgement, thus my pessimism about getting the isue.

In years past, it was a local call to Agnes Uhlir, Edith Childs or Michalene, and I could pick up what I needed.

I write for the CCCA Michigan "TORQUE" and even get extra copies of an issue if I want, but again. its all local.

Ill call as youve suggested, but Ill probably get an answering machine, and never a return call.

Hello Peter,

Alan Haas, the chair of the Publications Committee, has authorized our overseas distributor to step up their service to the fastest possible level. Its more expense to the CLC, but we felt it was a necessary step in order to take better care of our members outside the United States. Were still at the mercy of your postal system, but the magazines will get on the plane bound for your country earlier than before.

We have no control over whether our distributor uses a plastic bag or paper bag. They have been in business since 1960, so they must do something right.

P.S. Did you get my e-mail several months ago tipping you off about hotel info for this years Grand National?

You are not allone whit your complaints.
As Director of European affiliates CLC i take care of these problems (i did to before i had this "title" )
Here in Europe we have the same problem as you , but the difference "today" is that some one take care of it !  , we have @ least a listening ear and some one who takes action for us ( Chip Bryan, Internatl. VP )
And it is true that once the SS is outside the US they can not controle it annymore.
From then on they are depending on the post office.....
Thats why the Germans always receive there magazine 1 week before it arrives in Belgium  .
Maybe we can give the Belgium post a new XLR to secure a fast SS delivery.....
OH Peter.....in case you dont remember me....you sold me a water pump ( 472 engine ) during the Detroit GN 2002
Remember ???

Thanks, Mr. Coy for your message. I realize more than most in Canada that we are dependant on Canada Post as one of the partners in the chain from printer to recipient, having worked at Canada Post HQ for several years. However my friend in Utica received his SS on April 5 and Im still waiting on April 21.

SS is not the only magazine from the US that I have a problem with so I believe our postal system bears large responsibility. Skinned Knuckles is a great little magazine from Monrovia CA. Most times it takes 4 weeks after posting to get to my place only to be followed sometimes a week later by the next one! Then I have another drought!

Thanks for letting me vent!

Keep the rubber on the road,

Chris Bryant
