Friend is looking for a replacement steering column inner spring as his hydro shift lever drops down. Any leads appreciated.

There was a person in the Self Starter who advertised repor springs.  I dont remember seeing the ad recently.  Looks to me like the person did a good job in making the part, but I ahve not reassembled my column yet.

Daniel. Can you send me a picture of your repo spring ?

Thanks

Jeff,
it looks just like the original.  Same size and shape; maybe a little heavier gauge metal is the only difference.

Am I correct assuming this is a simple U shaped spring ?

I fianlly got off my dead duff, and looked in my (1951) parts book for that damned spring. The picture it shows does not portray the 41 hydra-matic selector at all, and that linkage at the selector head is totally different. Im thinking that it could have been similar, or even the same on later H-M trans. cars. if so, its a small (compression) coil spring, about 3/8 diameter, and around 3/4  long, as memory serves me.

The isting does show a spring (no picture) of a cross-over spring for H-M models only from 41 trough 47, and another (???) from 48 to 51. I sort of think that this is the little coil spring.

Three of my 41s are Hydra-Matics, and they do have that spring. The fourth 41 has a manual shift, and the selector head IS different.
