Was there an underhood light option for 1976 Eldorado's?

I have a couple of these light laying around from other (newer) Cadillacs, and wanted to know if anyone else has one on their car, and if so, the exact location.

Thanks,

Brian

Out of the 30 or so 71-78 Eldos I had around I have never seen an under hood light.  I don't think it was avaliable.  No reason you cannot use one for a later car or maybe the a trunk light.

Ted,

I have a couple of them from 84-84 Eldos that I have parted out.

If I did put one in, it would look factory, but would be incorrect, so I guess I will skip it.

Thanks,

TED!  My 76 Coupe de Ville came from the factory with an underhood light.  I can't imagine Eldos not having them.  EAM

That is interesting I have not seen this.  Not saying that they never had it only that I have never seen one.  But a lot of my eldos especially in 1978 were very loaded so you think it would of had one if it was available.  I think all my cars came with the trunk light.

I would not hesitate to put one on just because it is not original.  It would be very easy to remove if you wanted and a very nice item to have.

None of mine have lights. A few of them seem to have every other option.   I dont ever recall seeing one so it must have been pretty rare.  I also have not seen it in the service manuals, if it was an option you would think it would show it.  There is lots of stuff on the later drawings so maybe Im missing it.

TED!  Maybe my 76 Coupe de Ville underhood light was done at the dealership but it looks like factory installed.  EAM

My recollection on my '72 was when it came in, the dealership installed a GM part numbered under hood light.  I bought a second and still have it somewhere.  My take is that they were all dealer installed options.

I wonder if they used a trunk light?

Trunk and glove box lights were standard back to the 1950's.  I'd be surprised if a car in the Fleetwood series as late as the 1970's didn't have it as standard equipment.

I thought they only fitted Under Hood lights when vehicles had a tendency to break down, and required checking and repairing, especially at night.

Maybe Cadillac pre-empted the problems with the HT4100 equipped vehicles and fitted the lights under the hoods.

Not positive if this is the same for all years, but on my '91, the head or parking lights have to be on for the hood light to work.

The "accessory" underhood light kit that was installed on my '72 is a simple light, similar to a trunk light, but with a protective hood over the bulb, and a mounting bracket.  The fixture contains a simple Mercury switch and the pigtail is connected to a continuously hot circuit.  If mounted correctly according to the instructions, when the hood is raised, regardless of anything else, the light goes on.  The stated purpose was so you can check the oil level in the dark.
