Does anyone have experience with or have installed a small block chevrolet engine with a 350 turbo automatic transmission into a 4 door 1940 Lasalle.. I am about to attempt it...I have the car and the drive train ready to go...Just need advice as to the difficulty of this project...amount of welding to be done....clearances,  etc...Thanks!!!!

Tom,
With all due respect, asking that question on THIS forum is sort of like going to an A.A. meeting and asking how to mix drinks.  I strongly suggest you try the Modified chapter forum " http://www.modifiedcadillac.org/forum/".  Even though many of the members of this forum, myself included do occasionally "stray" from being Cadillac purists, you might find more people who can assist you.  The simple answer to your question is that it is a "no brainer" for an installation, and all it takes will be money.

Hey Cadilac Kid,   My sincere apologies for picking the wrong venue for my question.  I will say the 40 Lasalle that I am using is perfectly stock in appearance and retains the glory style of that time period.  I obtained it minus the engine and I am just interested in seeing it move down the road.  In addition there is some evidence that I received that this particular car I am using made a guest appearance in the godfather movie of 1972.  Also your comparison with an AA meeting was great and I laughed for a good bit of time....Tom

Getting her moving with a non-original engine is far better than seeing her rot away somewhere.  Hats off to you for saving her.

I would start by removing the front fenders and hood, rad, etc to make room.  If you have a hoist, do a trial fit.  Remember to keep the engine level.  You might be able to buy universal mounts that can be welded to the frame.

The modified chapter will be very helpful and you may be able to obtain photos and details from someone else who has already done this swap.

Good luck.
