My car's (83 Eldo) brakes are groaning when I hit the pedal. It is definitely a groan (sounds exactly like a tire rubbing a wheel well, though this is definitely NOT the problem). Two things... 1. It's happened three times, and only after driving a while (13 mile daily commute). 2. I had the brakes checked a month ago, because I felt a small shuddering when braking hard, and my guy said the brakes were all fine. He's always been a good and reliable mechanic. What do y'all think?  Any guesses?

Can't hear this from here, but usually this is caused by the pad vibrating aginst the rotor that sets up a frequency, hence the noise.  This occurs because the rotor finish and pad surface are incompatible.  The cure is to clean up the rotors with  the proper finish, and possible new premuim pads, all rhe brake mounting hardware and sliders must be checked also.

Have the brakes just been relined?    Has the vehicle not been used for a while?  Or has the noise just started?
