My AM/FM radio does not play and the 8 track plays but is slow.  Should I look for a old stock radio or are there any new radios out that fit and look semi original.  Not really concerned to have an 8 track, but don't want that bad after market look where the radio sticks out farther then the dash.
Thanks for any suggestions

I have a couple of period radios available. Read some of the new radios that are made to look period aren't very good quality. Anyway, contact me if interested.

I'm likely going to put this in my '76 SDV.  http://www.retrosoundusa.com/products/category/id/1  it's close enough to June though so I may wait for the model 2..

odds are your eight track is in need of a good cleaning.. I'll bet the roller is all gummed up and slippery now.

I agree.  Try getting some extra long cotton swab type sticks (try Radio Shack
or even a good drug store).  Get some detnatured alcohol and clean the heads, rubber wheel and everyting you can see in the tape feeding path.

These units, especially after 40+ years get gunked up with dirt, dust and
residue from tapes.

I've kept mine clean on my '73 and it still works perfectly.

Good luck,

Mike

A buddy of mine tuned my radio up on my 76 eldo.  He put a new belt in it for the 8 track and everything works excellent now.

lol I've used rubber bands in the past to do this.. but they don't survive the heat in the summer and turn to a gooey mess.
