My gas gage on the dash flickers all of the time when the key is on, how can I determine if the sending unit is the problem?

If the sending unit needs to come out do I need to drop the gas tank?

Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

I would think the first thing would be to check all the connections you can starting with the back of the gauge and ending with the sending unit.  You will have to drop the tank to get the sending unit out.  You can put a multimeter in place of the dash gauge to see if you get a current fluctuation there.

I believe if you disconnected the wire to the tank and grounded it, the
gauge will go to E.  If it is steady in that setup, gauge is good, tank
unit is suspect.  For tank, next check the ground wire; after that pull it.
