pipe vacuum advance to carb ported side on driver's side.  The switch on the block sends manifold vacuum to timing to speed it up if it gets hot.  If you are having running hot issues, need temp gauge to be sure.  Timing to far retarded or advance causes run hot situation.  So many other things could be causing it too, make sure snorkel damper if you have it is open (on 1970, they fail in the warm up drag air over exhaust manifold mode), check heat riser in exhaust if so equipped, make sure rubber at bottom of radiator is attached, make sure radiator core is not plugged, make sure fan clutch is good, and etc.  If a replacement radiator make sure sides are sealed so it is not being bypassed.

I have put new fan clutch on my 69.... Radiator checked out fine, played with timing quite a bit too

The rubber piece at bottom of radiator to bumper is important for good cooling - is that in place?  Likely the radiator is not original, is it tight to shroud so air cannot go around radiator and take path of least resistance?  Easily solved with rubber seals.  Last four radiators have replaced from 67 thru 70 all needed the seals.
