Hello Stephen

This is a conundrum that Art pretty well addressed.

I would love to watch pictures of your journey.  Thanks for sharing.
All good men own a Cadillac but great gentlemen drive a LaSalle. That is the consequence of success.

Sounds like a challenging project for sure.  I am doing a frame-off rotisserie resto on my 41 60S, so I have lots of sympathy.  The core body should be similar between the years, though there will be nuance changes with things like the front fender attachment, back part of the trunk floor, rocker trim, accessory mounting, etc.  One thing I would suggest you look closely at is the condition of the wood sills.  After 70+ years, they are likely to be compromised.  The water management at the cowl and B pillar areas was not very good, and the external hinges provide a great point for water entry.  If you need to redo these, they are complicated, but Barry Wheeler has the factory print and he will let you borrow in exchange for a donation to the CLC Museum.  Let me know if you have other questions, as I may have already been there on my car.

Hi, I just noted Paul's aside. The plans are resting comfortably not five feet from where I sit in a mailing tube. Let me know. Email is: fltd6019@embarqmail.com. That is a "Q" not a "G."  Note: Your rear fenders should line up perfectly with the bolt holes. Best of luck. BW

Stephen:

That is a good swap. The body is the same except for a few minor differences. The rear fenders will bolt on as I did this in putting '39 fenders on on my 40-60S.  One area where you may find some differences is in the firewall and hood hinging. I wouldn't worry about the value of the car, who will know ? I am doing a '41 60S Formal sedan now and the '41 body has a number of differences from the '39 and 40.
